Ingredients of natural origin are used in many NIVEA skincare products. When developing our formulas, we carefully assess ingredients based on their skincare properties, product performance and environmental aspects.
We continuously work to increase the use of ingredients of natural origin where appropriate, while maintaining the quality and efficacy consumers expect from NIVEA.
When developing our skincare formulas, we consider biodegradability. as one of several factors in our formulation process. We work to increase the use of biodegradable ingredients where appropriate and to improve the environmental profile of our formulas throughout their lifecycle.
More and more people around the world choose vegan products for a variety of reasons. At NIVEA we are happy to offer our consumers a range of vegan skincare products that do not contain animal-derived ingredients, providing more choice for consumers with different preferences.

Reducing microplastics in product formulations has been an important focus area for NIVEA. Since 2023, all NIVEA product formulations worldwide have been free from microplastic according to the UNEP definition.*

Palm (kernel) oil derivatives are used in many cosmetic products because of their functional skincare benefits. At NIVEA, responsible sourcing of palm-based ingredients is an important part of our approach.
Since the end of 2020, all palm (kernel) oil-based ingredients used in our products have come from sustainably certified sources according to the RSPO Mass Balance model (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil). We also work with suppliers and partners to improve transparency and traceability across the supply chain.
